MODELLWERFT Action Show
2,500 square metres of exhibition area at Faszination Modellbau Karlsruhe are dedicated to model shipbuilding. A large pool inside the exhibition hall, generous table-top areas and last not least the fairground’s own lake all create ideal settings for over 1,000 model ships.
Several times a day Dieter Miedek and his renowned group of modellers stage spectacular battles between Red Indian canoes and settlers’ rafts on the water pool. Spectators can watch as a fire breaks out on a drilling platform and several fireboats come to the rescue. Tugboats, steamships and powerboats can all be seen in action on the pool, and in ‘dry dock’ an impressive display of noble yachts.
Exquisite ship models presented by “ModellWerft” magazine are another highlight of this year’s exhibition. These include Ralph Gralke’s 3.5 metre long supertanker, impressive racing yachts by Heinz Schmalenstroth and a series of test models made from construction kits by Andreas Stach. Numerous other sailing vessels from classic to modern, tugboats, steamships and power boats all supply modellers with ideas and illustrative material for their own model engineering projects. A British exhibition of “grey ships” rounds off the range of special displays.
